LGS has long been a strong player in the mining and natural resources sectors in Indonesia. The history of Indonesia’s mining policies, starting from the Contract of Work era of the 1970’s until the present policy bringing back to life the Contract of Work and Coal Contract into the Mining Licensing regime, tells a story of massive changes in the laws and policies, including many key questions of how to interpret the prevailing laws and regulations, tough negotiations during the complex contract drafting processes for both the Government and investors, innovative financing scheme for lenders, and not the least important, the political and social aspects of such activities that involve public debate on how national resources should have been utilized and managed for national and regional interests.
