LGS was involved in many major debt restructuring transactions. The firm has been appointed Indonesian legal counsel for the Astra Group and has assisted the group in restructuring (merger, expansion and liquidation) over 100 companies. LGS also acted as Indonesian counsel in Astra’s successful debt restructuring program of over US$ 1.2 billion in debts in 1999, which was one of the largest and most complex projects of this nature in Indonesian legal history. The further deepening of economic crisis forced Astra to restructure its debt in 2002. Again, LGS assisted Astra in the successful second debt-restructuring program that positioned Astra as the biggest and one of the healthiest firms in Indonesia. LGS has acted as the Indonesian Government’s counsel to restructure the Indonesian banking systems during the economic and monetary crisis in 1998-2003, that exposed LGS to tremendous experience to deal with national and international scheme of policy issues, take over, merger and acquisition, and liquidation of troubled major assets of banks and companies. One example, LGS has assisted IBRA in the biggest debt restructuring in the world, a US$ 6.7 billion restructuring at Asia Pulp & Paper.
The firm’s lawyers have played important roles in a number of transportation projects, particularly toll roads, as well as other large-scale infrastructure projects. LGS has also had a presence outside of Indonesia and has provided legal services on a number of projects, including the Metro Manila Skyway Project.
LGS has been involved in a substantial number of projects involving state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Previous clients have included PLN, Jasa Marga, Perusahaan Gas Negara, PTP, Inhutani, Telkom, Garuda, Aneka Tambang, Timah, Cipta Niaga, as well as a number of state-owned banks and IBRA. The knowledge and experience amassed by LGS in these projects has proved invaluable in providing legal and practical advice for clients who deal with such SOEs.
Lately LGS has assisted HM Sampoerna in one of the biggest acquisition of public companies, Temasek and Goldman Sachs in a series of anti-monopoly litigations, restructuring and IPO of Adaro, one of the biggest mining companies, and its traditional clients such as Astra, Unilever, Charoen, Sampoerna family in various restructuring, merger and acquisition and capital market corporate actions, and the Indonesian Government in anticipating potential banking crisis due to the recent global economic crisis.View All Articles in LGS Experience
